Dominant Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive year.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
