Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they start the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
