Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is leaving the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just a week after a batch of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal the accused trafficker became publicly available.

He remarked in a statement that he was "appreciative for the chance to have served, enthusiastic about the potential of the organization, and anticipate tracking their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who once presided over the prestigious university, announced on recently that he would be stepping back from public commitments due to his relationship with Epstein.

The newly public communications demonstrated that Summers exchanged messages with Epstein until the eve of Epstein's 2019 apprehension for suspected sex trafficking of underage individuals.

In additional comments, the technology organization stated it understood the economist's choice to depart.

"We appreciate his significant contributions and the insight he brought to the directors," the company commented.

Congressional Action

This news arrives after both chambers of the legislative branch agreed on Tuesday to approve a bill that would require the Department of Justice to disclose its records on the case.

The bill will subsequently proceed to the administration of US President Donald Trump for signature. He has said he plans to approve the measure, after modifying his view on the subject following objections from his supporters.

Summers occupied high-level positions under Democratic administrations; acting as Treasury chief under President Clinton, and as leader of the economic advisory body under the former leader.

He presided over the institution from the early 2000s and continues to be a faculty member there. When announcing his departure from public roles previously on Monday, he indicated he would continue his academic responsibilities.

Following Summers' statement on earlier this week, the Center for American Progress, a liberal policy institute in Washington where he was a researcher, confirmed that the economist was ceased to be associated with the organization.

He became part of the board of the technology firm, which develops the language model, in 2023 - following a failed attempt to replace its CEO Sam Altman.
