Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
