Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt prepared to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can now articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the movie, adding that he doesn't recollect "any day without mirth".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he understood the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official ruled to prevent the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A legal directive put a security hold on the files to restrict the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" connected to the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
After the killings, public figures offered divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing divisive statements that were widely condemned by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the detractors recently. Speaking on his program, Rogan characterized the comments as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an associate ought to have stepped in when the decision to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
